Kern found himself down early in his second-round match to Bishop, trailing by two holes after taking bogeys on the second and fourth holes of play. But the senior-to-be regained his composure with five straight pars and following bogeys by Bishop the eighth and 11 th holes of the match, had battled back to square the match. Kern then used a birdie on the 15 th hole and an eagle on the 16 th to take control of the match. During his afternoon pairing with Cline, Kern found himself in an even bigger deficit and trailed by as many as four holes with just six to play. But Kern once again rallied, taking holes 13, 14, and 16 before finally squaring the match on with a par on the 18 th hole.
